Pastor’s Newsletter Article – September 2016

Here are updates on a couple of opportunities and hopefully some inspiration as well.

The Re*Membership project consists of an eight part sermon series starting September 4th and running trough October 23rd, and a six-week small group experience starting the week of September 11th. The groups will give us the opportunity to Connect with and encourage others, deepening our relationship with God through Jesus. Throughout our daily days we encounter difficult situations. Having a group where others journey with us as we seek to follow Jesus can be a place of hope.

The Re*Membership project is an outgrowth of the Fruitful Congregation Journey which continues to influence the ministry of St. Paul. The FCJ process reminds us that our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. The Re*Membership project is an attempt to fulfill our mission of making disciples. Re*Membership is also an avenue to strengthen our discipleship.

In March 2017, we will have our FCJ consultation weekend. If you are reading this, you are an important part of the FCJ Consultation weekend. However, you don’t have to wait until March. Watch for another “call out” for those interested in being part of this very important movement within our church! We are looking for people to join the team, but we also hope that more people will discover FCJ and why we are participating.

Why are we focusing on Re*Membership and FCJ? Because our God is an Awesome God. We want others to know the hope and life we have found in God through Jesus. We want others to know that they are not junk, but are loved more than they could ever imagine.

Jesus told his disciples that in this world they will have trouble (John 16:33). He didn’t stop there though. While he acknowledged there would be trouble, he also told them to take heart because he had overcome the world. Yes, we will have trouble, our friends will have trouble, our community will have trouble, and our world will have trouble, but we do not face life or trouble alone. We can face life with Jesus, the one who overcomes the world! Even in the midst of our trouble, Jesus gives peace.

Looking around, you probably realize this is not a time of much hope. Fear confronts us on every corner. The world does not give hope, but Jesus does. Jesus gives hope and Jesus gives peace. Actually Jesus IS hope and Jesus IS peace. The world may be a difficult place right now, but life without Jesus makes everything much, much worse. Without Jesus, we lose hope for today and the future.

We want everyone to know the life Jesus offers. That’s why we are doing Re*Membership and FCJ. Re*Membership will remind us of the hope we have and FCJ will equip us to share that hope with others so that they might become disciples…and transform the world!

My prayer is that, as a church and as individuals, we would relentlessly pursue Jesus, discovering and embracing his love so that we might share his love and life with others. I am honored to be on this journey with you and look forward to all that God is doing through St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Peace,

David.
